Jeunes Sommeliers Auvergne Rhône-Alpes contest
Philippe Faure-Brac, the best sommelier in the world, will sponsor the first edition of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Young Sommeliers Contest. And it'll take place at Sirha!
Join us at the Wine Bar where on Monday, 28 January, a dozen sommelier students, all from schools in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, will compete at the Wine Bar in front of an audience. Created at the request of the Oenotheque Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes whose aim is to highlight local wines, this challenge is organised by the Association of Sommeliers of Lyon and Rhône-Alpes (ASLERA). "In Lyon, the capital of gastronomy, we are lucky to be surrounded by a multitude of wine-growing regions: Savoie, Bugey, Beaujolais, Ardèche, Vallée du Rhône, Auvergne, Coteaux du lyonnais, du Forey, Côtes roannaises… We, sommeliers , have the duty to be the ambassadors of our talented winemakers, explains Laurent Derhe, president of ASLERA and holder of the title Meilleur Ouvrier de France, MOF (Best Sommelier of the Year). This contest is an opportunity to highlight them, and is also a reminder that wine is an integral part of our gastronomy." This initiative is naturally welcomed by the French Sommelier Union (Union de la Sommellerie Française, UDSF) and its president Philippe Faure-Brac, who has enthusiastically accepted to be its sponsor. Rest assured that this will be a fine opportunity for the participating young candidates.
