THE NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR DAIRY PRODUCE WITH CERTIFIED ORIGINS

The CNAOL represents all French dairy produce with certified origins.
To date, 43 cheeses, 2 butters and 1 cream benefit from this label, including:

  • nearly 17,000 producers
  • 212,000 tons of cheese, butter and cream
  • 17% of all matured cheeses.

The CNAOL defends and promotes French dairy produce with certified origins. A three-year consumer campaign started in 2004 in partnership with the European Union and the Livestock Office is currently running. The objective is to promote the values of origin labels and familiarise the public with the European Protected Origin logo (AOP), the European equivalent of the French AOC.
Defending the interests of producers of products with certified origin Labels is not limited to questions concerning the French.
The CNAOL helped set up two associations:

· The European Alliance for Artisan and Traditional Raw Milk Products (EAT):  a European association lobbying for raw milk cheeses.
· The Organization for an International Geographical Indications Network (ORIGIN):  a world association for the defence of products benefiting from a geographical ascription (AOP + IGP)
